http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RNPbamAf9r4&feature=related Introduction of learning goals http://www.vimeo.com/5665405 Goals should reflect the learning organisations mission http://www.columba.vic.edu.au/heritage/our-mission.html
3
What are goals and why set them? Goals are something you want to achieve in the future. They help you reflect on yourself as a learner and become aware of your strengths and weaknesses. You set goals so that you can actually accomplish your dreams and aim for something even greater in the future.
4
The Purpose of Learning Goals? To help keep you on track. This is an opportunity for you as a student to take greater control over your own learning. You can do this by setting your own goals and evaluating these. CC Flickr
5
Professional Conversations You will set your own learning goals. Your House Group teacher will help be available to support and discuss your goals. Your House Group teacher will report on your achievements.
6
Learning Goals Academic achievement Will lead to improving the way you learn. It’s about doing something differently not necessarily more of the same thing. It should lead to better outcomes. Social development The way you relate to peers and teachers and how these relationships can be enhanced and used to improve your learning. Organisational Skills Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of how we go about doing our day to day business.
7
Types of goals When you set your learning goals, make sure they are S.M.A.R.T. Goals This stands for goals which are: SPECIFIC MEASURABLE ACHIEVABLE REALISTIC TIME-SPECIFIC
8
Explanation.... SPECIFIC- means that your goal is to the point. Describe what you want to achieve in as much detail as possible. Outline the steps you need to take MEASURABLE- means progress towards your goal can be measured and that you will know when you have reached it ACHIEVABLE- means that your goal is something that you know you can achieve with effort, energy, discipline and time
9
Explanation.... REALISTIC- means that you must make sure your goals can be achieved given your personal environment and circumstances TIME-SPECIFIC- means that the amount of time you have to reach your goal is reasonable-for example not too short or not too long. Also, you set yourself a time limit to achieve the goal
10
How to write Learning Goals? They are a declaration of intent not a wish list. I will... Not I want.... Need to consider blockers and strategies to overcome the blockers
11

Year 12 You should be able to do this on your own. Write your own goals on the proforma I have sent. Share them with others. Discuss are they SMART. Reword them. They should be based around your VCE year and your realistic ambitions and career prospects. You need to send these to me no later than Monday and discuss a time to discuss these with me in next 2 weeks.

Year 11 You already have your goals. I have made some suggestions on these. I will discuss this with each of you hopefully in this lesson. Review these and reword these goals. Discuss with others and ensure they are SMART. Rewrite goals Break the goals down into achievable objectives list these and how long you expect to achieve these on the proforma.
