General Information Takes place every 4 years Last summer Olympics were in Beijing (2008) 43 different sports have been part of the Olympic program The summer Olympics will have 28 sports taking place Over 300 events take place in the summer Olympics 2016:1 st time the games will be in South America Golf and rugby seven will be introduced

Symbols Rings: represent the different continents blue for Europe, yellow for Asia, black for Africa, green for Oceania and red for America Mascot: an animal native to the area or occasionally human figures representing the cultural heritage Flame: Commemorating the theft of fire from the Greek god Zeus by Prometheus. According to legend, the torch's flame has been kept burning ever since the first Olympics.

Venues Created on 2.5 km 2 of industrial contaminated land The venues are either temporary structures, or ones that will have long-term use after the games More than 30 buildings were demolished on the site to make way for the construction of the venue.

Sustainability: “The Green Games” Sustainability has been imbedded from the beginning. The idea of sustainability is based on 5 themes: Climate change Waste Biodiversity Inclusion Healthy living 14,000 spectators are expected to walk or cycle to the olympic Park on the busiest day.
