There are many issues that we face that do not have right or wrong answers. Our values and characteristics influence the decisions we make and the stands that we take on controversial issues. As we discuss some of these issues today, be honest about your thoughts and feelings AND be respectful of others’ opinions.

Do violent video games encourage violence? Would you continue to hang out with your close friend who you spend a lot of time with and who was just diagnosed with AIDS? Which situation is more likely to put you in danger? › Getting a ride home from someone you just met at a party › Meeting someone in person who you have met on the internet but have no idea who they are › Spending the weekend with friends who you suspect will be partying (drinking and/or doing drugs) and your parents are out of town

Should the government decide if gay and lesbian couples should be able to get married? Should parents monitor your on-line activity?

When faced with controversial issues it is important to be considerate of other’s opinions but be able to have your own ideas. Many different things influence the way we think and feel. It is up to you to make your own decisions and form your own opinions.
