Our Graphs 2008-2009 Ms. Susan Gruber Our Lady of Peace Half-Day Kindergarten Columbus, Ohio USA
2
The Process Each student wanted to find out more information about the members of our class! We wanted to get to know each other better. We thought of questions that we could ask each other. The answers to those questions would tell us something about our classmates that we did not know before. We each “surveyed” the other members of our class by asking each child a question and recording the answers to the questions. After we had all of the information needed, we each graphed, or made a chart, showing what we had learned about each other! We then wrote about the graphs that we made!
3
Adam asked the question, “What is your favorite food?” Some like popcorn, waffles, chicken and chocolate cake! Most of the students like pizza!
4
Abby asked each student which was his or her favorite fruit. She made a picture graph to show what the students chose. Three students chose apples. Two students chose bananas. One student picked blueberry. Strawberry was the favorite fruit!
5
Belle asked about favorite sports. Belle found out that most children in our class like football! Belle said that her favorite sport is baseball!
6
Nicholas asked each student about siblings! Siblings are brothers and sisters. Nicholas found out that most of the students had only one sibling.
7
Spencer Ruff was the first student to finish his graph. He wanted to find out about what pets the students had. Some of the students had more than one pet! Some students did not have any pets at all. Mrs. Gruber, our teacher, does not have any pets! The most popular pets were dogs!
8
Adam Lang looked at something interesting about our school uniforms! Students are allowed to wear blue shirts and they are allowed to wear white shirts. Adam chose a day to look at which shirts students were wearing. Most students wore blue shirts that day!
9
Elizabeth asked her classmates about the color of their hair. She chose to make a picture graph to explain what she found out about her classmates! All ten students had either brown hair or blonde hair. Can you tell from her graph how many boys have blonde hair?
10
Spencer asked, “What color house do you live in?” One student lives in a brown house. One student lives in a red house. One lives in a blue house and one in a gray house. Most students live in white houses!
11
Maddie looked at the colors of the shoes that the children wore to school one day. One girl wore pink shoes to school that day. One boy wore brown shoes that day. Two students wore black shoes to school. Five students had on white shoes!
12
Mary Kate asked each student about his or her favorite color! She cut out circles to stand for the colors. The tallest column of circles is the pink column. Most of the students chose pink as their favorite color! Mary Kate’s favorite color was blue!
13
Spencer asked the students their favorite place to go in the summer. Two students picked the beach. Most students picked the swimming pool!
