To help make decisions on hiring and promotion they use several documents. This lectures covers the most common – the Résumé

Language Studies and Academics Definition Its purpose is to inform potential employers of your job qualifications. It must be well written and contain accurate information. A résumé is a document containing information about your education, work experience, and personal interests.

Language Studies and Academics Organizing a Résumé Chronological Organization – focus is on work history; experience is listed in order of jobs held. Functional Organization – focus is on skills, abilities, achievements; listed separately from employment history (which is kept brief). Combined Organization – Mostly chronological, with key skills highlighted first. It is becoming a popular choice.

Language Studies and Academics Appearance of the Résumé A résumé should be grammatically perfect! A résumé should not be stapled. Do not use dark or fluorescent colours (It can cause a problem when photocopying or faxing)
