3 JACK O’CONNELL State Superintendent of Public Instruction Introduction  Assembly Bill 127 (Chapter 35, Statutes of 2006 – Nunez and Perata) established the Overcrowding Relief Grant (ORG) (Education Code sections 17079–17079.30) $1 billion available  Replace portable classrooms with permanent classrooms on overcrowded school sites with permanent classrooms

4 JACK O’CONNELL State Superintendent of Public Instruction Eligible Schools  School sites must be deemed eligible by CDE  School site must have pupil population density equal to or greater than 175% of CDE’s recommended population density  Based on population density utilizing the 2005/06 California Basic Educational Data Systems (CBEDS)
