1 “World Meeting of Families begins today in Philadelphia”

2 The World Meeting of Families, which culminates with a visit by Pope Francis this weekend, begins Tuesday in Philadelphia, and thousands of people from around the globe are expected. From Angola to Ethiopia, from Dallas to the Dominican Republic, from Mexico to Malawi, pilgrims are already flocking to the City of Brotherly Love. Since its inception by Saint John Paul II in 1994, the World Meeting of Families has strengthened the sacred bonds of families across the globe. Held every three years and sponsored by the Holy See’s Pontifical Council for the Family, the World Meeting of Families is the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families. Each World Meeting of Families has a theme that energizes and enlivens the event while adding great depth of meaning to our understanding of families. The theme of the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015 is “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully Alive,” emphasizing the impact of the love and life of families on our society. There will be many internationally known speakers to discuss what can help strengthen the sacred bonds of families across the globe. 3 In Other News How do you like them apples? Among kids, a lot, apparently. Apples account for 18.9% of fruit intake among people ages 2 to 19 in the United States, according to the study published Monday in Pediatrics. Apples, along with apple juice, citrus juice and bananas made up almost half of fruit consumption. Kids in the United States consumed 1.25 cups of fruit every day, on average, the study said. That's within the range recommended by the 2010 dietary guidelines released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which say children should eat 1 to 2 cups of fruit per day. "Saturday Night Live" cast member Taran Killam just won a new role, and it's a "huge" one. Killam will play Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump on this season's "SNL" -- the variety show's 41st. Killam's debut in character will almost surely be on October 3, the night "SNL" returns from its summer hiatus. "SNL" is one of America's foremost sources of political satire, so Killam might be feeling the pressure. He has been a cast member since 2010 and has impersonated celebrities like Brad Pitt and Matthew McConaughey. But there's no celebrity quite like Trump.
