Lesson 1: Body Facts Your task this lesson is to explore information sources, such as reference books, the hotlist and the internet, to discover interesting number facts about the human body. For example, the rates of growth for human hair or fingernails, the world’s tallest man, or the total combined length of blood vessels in the body. Use Inspiration to present these facts in the form of labels surrounding a body. Click on the EYE to return to the CONTENTS page

Lesson 2: Measure Me Your task this lesson is to use scales, tapes, rulers and other measuring tools to measure different parts of your body, you could do this with a partner. Record your data on the sheet provided and hand this in to Miss Dimos, Mr White or Yoong. The class will use this data as part of Lesson 3’s session. Your name will not be published with the data you supply. See your class teacher for a copy of the recording sheet. CHALLENGE Calculate the surface area of your skin. Lesson 3 & 4 : Group Data This week you will create data tables for our collective group, using measurements gathered during the last session. You will learn about the mean, the medium and the mode – what they mean, when they are useful, and how to find them. You will graph some of your data and write a paragraph of explanation to accompany each graph. Click on the EYE to return to the CONTENTS page

Lesson 5: Ratio, Proportions & Converting Lengths
This lesson you will use some of the measurements we gathered in Lesson 2 to examine some of the proportions and ratios between different body parts. For example, is there a relationship between the length of the foot and the length of the leg that can be applied elsewhere on the body? Look at the measurements that you have taken in lesson 2. Can you convert these to show the same length differently? For e.g. Cm to Meters? Use the table provided Click on the EYE to return to the CONTENTS page

Lesson 6: Putting on the Final Touches
Use this time wisely. Make sure that: you have finished all of your work requirements explanations and calculations are included spelling, grammar and punctuation are correct all expectations of the rubric have been met Submit your finished work and we will use the rubric to give you some feedback. Is repeatedly off task and is willing to settle for less than personal best. Spelling, punctuation & grammar The text is clearly written with little or no errors to detract from content. The text is clearly written but a few spelling and/or grammar errors are noticeable. Spelling and grammar errors detract, but content is understandable. Many errors in spelling, grammar, sentence structure affect content & major revision is needed. Explanations The explanations were interesting, engaging and provided clear reasoning. The explanations provided clear reasoning. The explanations provided some reasoning. The explanations failed to express reasons for your reasoning. Comparison & representation of data (Double Points) Used spreadsheets, tables and online calculators to accurately tabulate data and represent body measurements. Displayed data in graph form. Uses some electronic tools to tabulate data and represent body measurements with some degree of accuracy. Displayed data in graph form. Used no electronic tools to tabulate data and represent body measurements, however was able to present this in a written format with some inaccuracy. Although support was provided to tabulate data and represent body measurements, errors were frequent and affected the results. Mathematical understanding Shows complete understanding of the mathematical concepts required to complete the task. Shows substantial understanding of the mathematical concepts required to complete the task. Shows some understanding of the mathematical concepts required to complete the task. Shows very limited understanding of the mathematical concepts required to complete the task. Presentation – design & layout features, links & transitions Makes excellent use of fonts, colour, graphics, effects, links, transitions, etc. to enhance the presentation. Makes excellent use of colour, handwritten fonts and presents work in a manner to enhance the final product.
