6 What is a prepositional phrase? A preposition never appears alone; it is always part of a prepositional phrase. A prepositional phrase includes the preposition, the object of the preposition, and the modifiers of the object. ontrampoline The girls jumped on the trampoline. downstreet The boy ran down the street. The words in blue are the prepositions. The words in green are the objects of the prepositions – nouns that follow the prep & finish out the prep phrase.

7 NOT Sentence expansion: On the next panel, add prepositional phrases to each of these sentences. Challenge…put the prepositional phrases in a different location in each sentence and do NOT use the same preposition more than once. Hint – For a list of prepositions, see page 112-113 in your book. The soldiers were marching. The soldiers were shouting. The soldiers were searching.

I need you to write neatly because you’ll be turning this into the blue file organizer in the back of the room. Please make sure you NAME is on the top & you highlight your name! When you’re done, get a piece of computer paper off of the front table.

14 Preposition Illustration (Daily Classwork: 15 points) You are going to come up with a sentence that contains a prepositional phrase. Then, you’re going to illustrate it. Here’s what you’ll do: – Write your sentence at the top of the page and underline your prepositional phrase. – At the bottom of the page, indicate which word is the preposition and which word is the object. – Illustrate & Color a picture portraying your sentence in the middle of your paper. *Let’s look at my example on the next panel! (Warning…I’m not the most artistic person )
