MATTER Anything that has mass and takes up space 3 states of matter: solid, liquid, gas
3
Mass The amount of matter in an object Measured in grams with a triple beam balance
4
Properties Appearance and measurable characteristic of matter Mass, magnetism, state of matter, ability to conduct heat…
5
Solubility The ability of one substance to be dissolved in another substance Sugar in water Lemonade powder in water
6
Classify To sort into groups by characteristic or property
7
Magnetism A force produced by magnets that pull metals with iron
8
Relative Density The measure of the amount of matter in an object Determines if the object will sink or float in a liquid
9
Physical State Matter can be classified in 3 states: solid, liquid, or gas
10
Thermal Energy The energy of moving particles
11
Conductor Objects that allow energy to flow through them Examples: copper, aluminum, iron
12
Insulator Do not conduct energy well Cloth, wood, rubber, glass, plastic
