3 Subject Compliments Subject Compliments happen when your sentence has a LINKING verb. Was Is Are Have been Am Smells, sounds, tastes

4 Let’s learn about Direct and Indirect objects first:

5 What is an indirect object?

6 An indirect object identifies to, for whom or what the action of the verb performed is.

7 One way to look at it...

8 An indirect object is like a birthday kid.
I'm the indirect object It is the receiver of the direct object much like a birthday kid receives the birthday gift.

A subject complement follows a linking verb and tells who or what the subject is or is like. It tell what the subject is EQUAL to Example: My mother was a good teacher. Mother = teacher -was is a linking verb -teacher is a subject compliment
