Research Project / Applications Seminar SYST 798 Sponsor: Dr. Kuo-Chu Chang Team:Brian Boynton Tom Hare Eric Ho Matt Maier Ali Raza

PROBLEM STATEMENT Urban biological terrorism –Slow response times cost lives –False positives cost money Detection, fusion and response –Three tier detection Stationary hubs Mobile payloads Ad hoc

PROBLEM STATEMENT Detection, fusion and response (cont’d) –Fusion Heterogeneous data sets Epidemic, gossip, or geographic algorithms –Response Real-time cordon mapping Account for changing environment

System Definition Requirements Analysis Model Design Model Development Model Execution & Analysis TECHNICAL APPROACH Web Site Literature Research Concept Exploration System Context Requirements Derived Reqs. Architectural Views High Level Models Detail Models Communications Algorithms (Epidemic, Gossip, Rumor) Geographic Algorithms (Geocast, Routing, Rendezvous) End-to-end Biological Sensor Fusion Model GUI Results Analysis

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS Design a solution to provide for fast Data Fusion to facilitate effective command decision-making –Evaluate data passing algorithms for optimal sensor fusion application –Evaluate existing sensor technology to devise and model an appropriate sensor array in an urban environment –Evaluate heterogeneous sources of data for applicability to data fusion solution –Evaluate Data Fusion solution against existing bioterrorism containment practices to combat epidemic-level infection and mortality rates

DRIVING REQUIREMENTS Create a Graphical User Interface prototype depicting Data Fusion to facilitate the DHS Ops Center commander’s decisions for action - DHS Ops Center GUI should be configured as a system interface

EXPECTED RESULTS Architecture Products (OVs, SVs) Simulation Model (CPN, others) Model Analysis

WORK BREAKDOWN STRUCTURE (WBS)

WBS WBS for the BSF team –Spend more time on our Technical Approach and Initial Protect plan tasks These two tasks and sub-tasks are highly important to successfully complete this project Next slide shows the exact time we have allocated for these tasks.
