The root-finding problem is one of the most important computational problems. It arises in a wide variety of practical applications in physics, chemistry, biosciences, engineering, etc.

As a matter of fact, determination of any unknown appearing implicitly in scientific or engineering formulas gives rise to a root-finding problem. We consider one such simple application here.

One of the classical laws of planetary motion due to Kepler says that a planet revolves around the sun in an elliptic orbit as shown in the figure below: Suppose one needs to find the position (x, y) of the planet at time t.
