The Four Seasons BY DYLAN STEPHENS Click on the Icons to learn about each season Click here to test your knowledge

Winter  Winter is the season with the shortest days and lowest temperatures  Trees and plants stop growing in the winter  Most animals hibernate or migrate away from the cold weather  During winter in the Northern hemisphere, the Earth is tilted away from the sun on it’s axis. Click here to continue

Earth’s Tilt During Winter The U.S. is in the northern hemisphere, so when the northern hemisphere is tilted away from the sun it is Winter.

Winter

Spring  Severe weather most often occurs during Spring because warm air begins to move up from the lower latitudes and cold air pushes down from the polar regions  Many trees, flowers, plants, and bulbs begin to grow during the Spring  Animals begin to shed their winter coat for warmer weather  During Spring in the northern hemisphere, the Earth’s axis is level with the sun causing this season Click here to continue

Earth’s Tilt During Spring The U.S. is in the northern hemisphere, so when the northern hemisphere is level with the sun the result is Spring.

Spring

Summer  The longest and warmest days of the year occur during summer  Summer is when many crops are grown and when people in the U.S. spend the most time outdoors  When summer is occurring in the Northern hemisphere, winter is occurring in the southern hemisphere  During summer in the Northern hemisphere, the Earth is tilted towards the sun on it’s axis causing this season Click here to continue

Earth’s Tilt During Summer  The U.S. is in the northern hemisphere, so when the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun it is summer. The white dot on Earth represents the U.S. in the northern hemisphere

Summer

Fall  In the fall, there is less sunlight during the day because the days are shorter  Pumpkins are a big crop during summer. They are used for pies, soups, and Halloween  Many animals begin to prepare for the winter by storing food in their nests and dens or fat on their bodies.  During Fall in the northern hemisphere, the Earth’s axis is level with the sun causing this season Click here to continue

Earth’s Tilt During Fall  The U.S. is in the northern hemisphere, so when the northern hemisphere is level with the sun the result is Spring.

Fall

During what season is the northern hemisphere tilted away from the sun? B.) Summer C.) Winter A.) Fall

Incorrect! Good guess, but during Summer the northern hemisphere is tilted towards the sun Click here to return

Incorrect! When it is fall, the northern hemisphere is level with the sun. Click here to return
