Rhetorical devices 1.Figurative language – Language that is used for descriptive effect – Expresses meaning beyond the literal level 2.Hyperbole – Using exaggeration to express strong emotion, to make a point, or to evoke humor

Rhetorical devices 3.Rhetorical questions – Questions for which no answer is expected 4.Parallelism – The use of series of words, phrases, or sentences that have similar grammatical form. Used to emphasize ideas 5.Connotative language – The suggested or implied meanings of words, used to influence an audience’s interpretation of ideas
