Body parts: skin, sweat and oil glands, hair and nails Accounts for 7% of the body’s weight Your skin is your largest organ Function of integumentary system: Protection against pathogens (germs) Keeps you hydrated (water in body) THE INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM

Composed of 3 distinct layers. Epidermis, Dermis, and hypodermis SKIN

Composed mostly of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium. Contains 4 distinct cell types and 4 to 5 distinct layers. EPIDERMIS - OUTERMOST LAYER.

Made mostly of connective tissue. Contains the hair follicles, sweat glands, oil glands, lymphatic vessels, and many sensory receptors. DERMIS - MIDDLE LAYER.

Energy holder – lots of fat cells Helps hold in body heat and impacts to skin HYPODERMIS – BOTTOM LAYER
