You have 3 minutes When I say go, write as many words on the card as you can from the unpacked standard we just read that you do not understand.

6.P.2.3 Properties of Matter In this unit our objective is to: Compare the physical properties of pure substances that are independent of the amount of matter present including density, boiling point, melting point and solubility to properties that are dependent on the amount of matter present to include volume, mass, and weight Where is this objective in our room?

1 minute of motion I would like you to walk around the room with your notebook in hand and repeat the words written in your notebook as you walk

New Stuff Keep your notebook open. You will check off or highlight any words from your notebook as I introduce this unit’s vocabulary. Let’s see if you got all 10!

Let’s set up our foldable 1.You will receive a handout now with lines on it 2.These lines will help separate our 10 vocabulary words for this unit 3.As I introduce each vocabulary word we will do a series of exercises for each word 4.Let’s get started..

Drum roll please! Here is our first word (yes it is a review word)

Mass We see it. Now let’s say it. (5 times) You hear it Now write it. (Put on your first flap)

Listen to my explanation Mass Take 1 minute to explain to your partner what I just said.

Let’s write the definition (put on the page behind the flap) I will show you Definition: “The amount of atoms/particles (stuff) in a solid, liquid, or gas.” Let’s draw a small picture (Experts say this increases the chances that we’ll remember the word...even if we are bad artists!)

Volume We see it. Now let’s say it. (5 times) You hear it Now write it. (Put on your first flap)

Listen to my explanation Volume Take 1 minute to explain to your partner what I just said.

Let’s write the definition (put on the page behind the flap) I will show you Definition: “the amount of space an object takes up ” Let’s draw a small picture

Density We see it. Now let’s say it. (5 times) You hear it Now write it. (Put on your first flap)

Listen to my explanation Density Take 1 minute to explain to your partner what I just said.

Let’s write the definition (put on the page behind the flap) I will show you Definition: “The amount of matter in a given space; mass per unit volume” Let’s draw a small picture

Solvent We see it. Now let’s say it. (5 times) You hear it Now write it. (Put on your first flap)

Listen to my explanation Solvent Take 1 minute to explain to your partner what I just said.

Let’s write the definition (put on the page behind the flap) I will show you Definition: “The substance that dissolves other things” Let’s draw a small picture

Solute We see it. Now let’s say it. (5 times) You hear it Now write it. (Put on your first flap)

Listen to my explanation Solubility Take 1 minute to explain to your partner what I just said.

Let’s write the definition (put on the page behind the flap) I will show you Definition: “The maximum amount a solvent can dissolve into a certain amount of solute” Let’s draw a small picture (Experts say this increases the chances that we’ll remember the word...even if we are bad artists!) Draw picture of 10 alka selters with a circle and slash meaning no more can go into the solvent (water)
