Biography Cecil Beaton was born on January 14 1904, in London, England. Cecil went to University of Cambridge's St. John's College in 1922, once he was older. He went there to study theater and photography. Beaton was not much of an academic type of person. Latter he dropped out in 1925 to work with his father as a timber merchant. Beaton’s photos where mostly shown in Vanity Fair and Vogue magazines. He was known for the portraits he took and the unusual backgrounds there where. His style was about catching the viewers eye and making the photo very interesting to look at. When Cecil Beaton got his first camera, he was eleven years old. His two younger sisters helped him, making them pose for him in his early years and sending his photographs into the newspaper, not knowing that one day he will make it to the big companies. Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against the play-it- safers, the creatures of the commonplace, the slaves of the ordinary. -Cecil Beaton

The lighting is coming from inside and from the subjects right. The light is shinning on her face from a flash from over there. Instead of the flash right above. The main subject is definitely Marilyn Monroe. I can tell because she is he person in he picture, and the lighting is right on her face, also she is following the rule of thirds. The texture of the photograph is soft it makes the subject look peaceful. The lighting is very well done and makes the picture a very grate picture that you want to be right there with her. The story of this photo is a woman that wants to make love. She’s there waiting for you and looking into your eyes with the silky look of her own. I chose this photo because Cecil Beaton loved to take pictures of her. Marilyn was in a lot of magazines. At the time she was the most famous girl on earth. 4 Fashion Shot Evening Wear, 1950s Beaton, Sir Cecil. CBE (1904-1980) The lighting is coming from the right and landing on the back of the focus point. Lighting in this photo cold of been better. I would of liked the photo if the lighting was coming from the camera jus so that you could get a little more detail on the subject. The main subject of the photograph is the girl in the black dress. I know this because she is the only thing that is there. Yes there are the black lines that contrast with the main subject it just makes the photograph look me 3D and add to the interesting fat to this photo. The composition is simple yea complicated. The texture is very smooth, yet the think lines add hardness to it. I think Cecil Beaton wanted us to get from this picture is that the girl was trying to run away from something, but is trapped in a room that she cant get out and slowly she starts to go crazy. I chose this photo because it stood out to me. I've never seen a picture like this one and Cecil Baton did a great job with going over bored that it was never over bored… 2

Fashion Photography Photo by Cecil Beaton 1960 This photos lighting is coming from behind the camera hitting the subject. This photo was also taken inside. The main subject is the girl in the crazy dress. This is because the background blank, but has some texture in it to make it a lot more interesting picture to look at. The floor has a lot of detail in it, it is a black and white stripe that is in a square, it is very trippy. This makes the photograph very unique because the floor is crazy, the girl is crazy, but the wall is not, it is just plain old red. You don’t see much fashion photographers go crazy, crazy, blank. It is normally, crazy, blank, blank. Since this is not the case the photograph it is unique. I think Beaton wanted us to think that she, the girl is at a party or a gathering of some sort. She started to dance but then someone ruined her day. She stopped dancing and went away. She was only looking back because she still wants to dance, but she’s is debating it. I chose this photo because I thought it as wired. I knew if I didn’t pick this one, I would be in bed trying to figure what it is. 3

Audrey Hepburn Taken by: Cecil Beaton I love this photo! The lighting is coming from behind the camera. The photo was taken outside. You can tell because of the background. The subject is the girl with the big hat. She’s the main subject because she is in full focus. All of the lines on the bow tie and the hat make her dark eyes pop, which makes the photo so good. The black and white lines contrast and adds to it has well. The story that Cecil Beaton was trying to get out there was The this lady is at tea and she see something disturbing and she turns to see what happened. Out of all of the other photographs I could of picked this one caught my eye the most. 4

The New York Years, Audrey Hepburn Taken by: Cecil Beaton I also really like this photo to. The lighting is coming from behind the camera and was taken inside. The main subject of the photograph is the women standing up in front of the image. The composition works well with this photo because the black and white boxes that get smaller and smaller contrast with the clothes. This make this photo interesting because you don’t really know what's going through her mind at the moment. She a girl full of mystery. I picked this photograph because I’ve never really seen anything like it. The picture popped out to me and thought it was a cool photo. 5
