5 Video Production Terms Camera Angles

6 Normal  Shows perspective similar to what we see looking at a scene

7 Zoom Out(ZO)  Shows a wide area, objects far away look very small

8 Zoom In(ZI)  Shows a narrow portion of the scene. Objects in the distance appearing larger relative to objects in the foreground

9 Pan  Turning camera horizontally from left to right or right to left

10 Tilt  Making camera point up or down gradually

11 Cant  Tilting camera to a 45° left or right

12 Pedestal  Elevating or lowering camera using the center column of a tripod

13 Dolly  Moving camera towards or away from object in more or less a straight line

14 Truck  Moving camera laterally left or right

15 Mid Shot(MS)  Frames upper part of a person

16 Knee Shot UP  Shows a person from approximately knees UP

17 Two Shot  2 people or objects in a shot

18 Three Shot  3 people or objects in a frame  (more than 3 called a multi shot)

19 Over-the-Shoulder (OTS)  Shows camera looking at someone over the shoulder of another person

20 Headroom  Leaving enough room between top of screen & top of head

21 Lead room  When subject is moving, keeping enough room between subject & edge of screen so it doesn’t appear as if subject is walking off the screen
