Classroom Practice w The course is challenging. w We want students to analyze the consequences (both good and bad) of human decisions. Example: What were the consequences of Japan’s decision to attack the United States at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941? w Students will be challenged to recognize the relevance of history and think like historians. w Students are expected to be prepared daily and will be held accountable. w The students are asked to analyze primary and secondary sources for guided classroom discussions, including non-print sources.

Assessments w HEAVY emphasis on writing! w Homework assignments and daily preparation Note cards, reading quizzes w In class writing activities w Notebook essays w Document analysis w Historical fiction/social history paper w Student prepared presentations w IB and Advanced Placement-type assessments w Content quizzes w Unit Tests w Class participation

Expected Outcomes w Although this is NOT an Advanced Placement course, I strongly recommend the students in my Advance level US 2 course to take the AP US History exam which is offered in May ‘15. w Since the course is challenging, it’s expected that students will become more responsible and independent. w Students will improve their verbal and writing skills. w Critical thinking and analytical skills will improve. w The students will be challenged to make decisions and defend them using logic, reasoning and evidence as support. w My MHS website.website
