Anatomy = Structure WHERE the body parts are From the Greek ana meaning “apart” and tomy meaning “to cut” Organisms are usually cut apart to see their anatomy Physiology = Function WHAT the body parts do From the Greek physio meaning “nature” and ology meaning “the study of” Studying of the “nature” of an organ

The Nervous System Anatomy: Brain, spinal cord, nerves, sensory receptors Physiology: Controls the body Send messages to the brain

The Digestive System Anatomy: Mouth, esophagus, stomach, intestines, rectum Physiology: Break down the food we eat into useful materials Get rid of the waste
