Programming Why do we program? Because we are looking to build community. We use it as a tool to bring people together to interact in meaningful ways.
2
Program Requirements Residence Life student staff must complete a minimum of six programs each semester Programs must be linked to the Guiding Principles: Academic Support, Personal Growth, Healthy Lifestyles, and Social Responsibility. One of the two programs for Social Responsibility for the academic year must focus on diversity.
3
Program Requirements All student staff must contribute to one traditional program in their area. This program may count towards the six-program minimum. A traditional program is usually executed as a staff and is repeated each year. Some examples of traditional programs are; MASA’s Halloween carnival, RHA’s ResLife week, Peer Mentor’s shindig, and South’s speak easy.
4
Program Requirements All student staff must plan and implement a recurring program for their specific community. This program may count towards the six-program minimum at Pro-Staff’s discretion. A recurring program is one that is repeated multiple times in a semester. Some examples of a recurring program are; sundaes on Sundays, workout Wednesdays, monthly study nights, etc.
5
Program Requirements A program approval form must be submitted to your ProStaff through email one week before any program. A program report must be written for each program within 48 hours of the program.
6
Grading Criteria Programs will be scored on a scale of 3-0, 3 being the highest. A program designed to get a three will strive to meet the following criteria: Incorporate and address the Residence Life Guiding Principles. Be thoroughly thought-out, well planned, and creatively advertised. Have resident involvement throughout the entire program. Meet community needs through on-going needs assessment. Be intentional and purposeful in identifying and meeting learning outcomes. Have adequate attendance from residents. Positively impact the community and residents.
7
Grading Criteria Programs will lose points for things such as: Poor advertising Little resident involvement/poor attendance Not being adequately planned Not being tied to resident needs Not fully incorporating a guiding principle
8
Grading Criteria A program may receive a zero for any or all of the following reasons: No resident involvement No meaningful impact on community or residents Not approved by ProStaff No advertising Not incorporating guiding principles
