WATER POLLUTION By: Lanna and Danica

Why this Matters We often get our drinking water from lakes and rivers. Lots of other animals and plants depend on the water. Cleaner water means healthier food chain ( from bugs, to fish, to birds, to people.) Dirty water can affect the health of the fish we eat.

What Can Happen If We Don’t Stop Pollution Since animals like fish, birds, mammals, reptiles and humans depend on water we have to make sure the water is clean. If we keep polluting the water we won’t be able to drink clean water and the animals in the oceans won’t be able to live and they will die.

Throwing garbage and other trash in the water can cause pollution. Gas from boats can also cause water pollution and if the gas comes to the water the animals in the water will die. If the fish die then other animals will die and we will all starve. We also won’t have water to drink. How Water Pollution Happens

FACTS Definition: water pollution is the contamination of water bodies like lake, rivers, and oceans *fresh water in the world is only 2.5% of the total water available on this planet. *at least 320 million people in China do not have access to clean drinking water. *Fourteen billion pounds of garbage mostly plastic, is dumped every year in the ocean. *15 million children under the age of 10 die each year of drinking water that is not clean

How To Stop Water Pollution Do not flush pills, liquid, or powder mediation. Avoid using garbage disposal. Make a compost pile from vegetable Don’t throw garbage in the ocean, rivers, ponds and lakes Do not throw chemicals, oils, paints, and medicines down the drain or down the sink Avoid using plastic. Since it is not biodegradable, plastic often ends up in the oceans, lakes, and rivers Don’t use pesticides and herbicides. These chemicals are sprayed on the surface of the yard, but when it rains they leach deep into the ground and get into the groundwater below
