Americans Join the War Effort Many young men joined the military. 5 million volunteers 10 million draftees Many young women joined with WAAC. Women’s Auxiliary Army Corps Minorities joined as well. At least half a million Mexican Americans,, more than a million African Americans, 50 thousand Japanese and Chinese Americans, and 25,000 Native Americans. The Navajo Wind Talkers.

Life on the Home Front Industrial factories went from making consumer goods to war goods. Autos to Tanks Mechanical Pencils to Bombs Women replaced men in factories. People complied with rationing to save goods for the war. Scientists worked in research and development for the military. Einstein and the Atomic Bomb. The government created propaganda videos and music. Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition These videos vilified the enemy, encouraged nationalism, and influenced desired behaviors on the home front. Japanese Internment
