Units, measures and abv can get everybody really confused about what is a safe amount to drink. Today you are going to get to grips with some of these terms and become more ‘drink aware’ about what goes into the body when you drink alcohol. DRINK AWARE?
4
Units Measures and ABV UNITS MEASURES ABV What you would get served in a pub. Every 10ml of ethanol found in an alcoholic beverage Amount of alcohol in an alcoholic beverage Mix and Match:
5
A measure of drink is the amount you would get served in a bar. Who reckons they know how much it is? Who would make a good bar keeper?
6
A measure of drink is usually only 25ml! (generous pubs – 35ml) Doubles...simple...double the amount! Who would make a good bar keeper? But...is there one unit in a measure or is a unit different?
7
A unit is 10ml of pure alcohol (the amount of alcohol the body can process in 1 hour) Government guidelines say: women should drink no more than 2- 3 units a day men should drink no more than 3-4 units a day UNITS...tricky!
8
1. Multiply the volume of the bottle or can by the % abv 2. Divide it by 1000 – this will give you the number of units! UNITS...you do the maths! Work out how many units are in the empty bottles of alcohol! You will need a calculator!
