Blocks and barriers to an effective coaching relationship Talking too much and not listening attentively. Trying to control the conversation because of a pre-determined agenda. Offering too much sympathy as opposed to having empathy. Believing one's experience is directly transferable to another person's situation. Trying to impose solutions rather than enabling a solution to emerge. Focusing on negative comments, problems, etc. © CatholicLinks

Self-awareness is the first step, and increasing self-awareness heightens your capacity to coach effectively in an enabling manner.
