The work of Trading Standards A broad consumer protection remit designed to: Stop people getting hurt or killed -Choking - Amputation -Allergic reactions etc Stop people getting ripped off -Fraud -Negligence

How do we achieve our aims? Engaging with business -Business advice -Primary Authority -Targeted inspections -Services -Consumer advice is provided by the Citizens Advice Consumer Service (CACS)

Trading Standards works with business to achieve compliance and in doing so ensures a high level of consumer protection

What we do Product Safety: Toys, Electrical Products, Furniture, Tobacco, Underage Sales -Importers -Manufacturers -Retailers Food chain: Agriculture, Animal Health, Food -Farms, markets and abattoirs -Food factories -Shops, pubs & restaurants -Regulating food co-products entering the food chain

Fair Trading: -Product/service descriptions -Trading practices -Contract terms and cancellation rights -Door step selling Metrology: -Testing trade equipment e.g. petrol pumps, weighbridges -Checking packing systems on site e.g. food, feed, cosmetics Licensing: -Petroleum -Explosives -Agriculture -Poisons What we do
