 Kinesiologist’s study human movement.  They conduct several tests, to determine how their body will function, and find ways to improve this movement.  There are three main types of kinesiologists; exercise Kinesiologist’s, biomedical kinesiologists and psychomotor behavior experts. › Exercise Kinesiologist’s examine how the body moves in sports such as soccer and dance. They examine the cardiovascular and cardiopulmonary capability of an athlete and develop programs to improve this. › Biomedical Kinesiologist’s help people who have chronic diseases or physical disabilities that alter their movement. › Lastly, psychomotor behavior experts assist people with perception, reaction times and motor learning skills. Including people with autism and neurological impairments.

 After some research online I have discovered kinesiology.  Being a dancer, I’m extremely interested in the movement of the human body. I would love to be a professional dancer, but I don’t see this as a stable source of income. I need the stability of a job such as kinesiology.  I like that I would be working one on one with people, so that I could develop my people skills. I like that I would be helping people reach their optimum physical level.  I’m also taking all the sciences in grade 11 and 12 so this should help for the science aspect of kinesiology.

Educational costs (Full first-year course load) Tuition$4,608 Student fees$823 Books$1400 Educational costs subtotal$6,831 Living costs Room and board (Living at Home)$0 Personal expenses$2,500 BC Health Insurance$432 Living costs subtotal$2,932 Estimated total cost$9,763 This is the Educational Cost for a full year course load in Kinesiology at UBCO: The total cost after four years in University would be: $39,052. I could take similar courses at UVic, or TRU. But it would be more expensive since I would have to pay for housing.

 It is estimated that by 2018 there will be 66,732 job openings and 79,021 job seekers wanting to fill these jobs in the Kinesiology department.  Poor occupational outlook.  The average hourly wage for Recreation, Sports and Fitness Program Supervisors and Consultants ranged from $11 to $47 dollars an hour in2009.

 Most kinesiologists’ work a regular workweek.  They have to be available for their patient when they need assistance which may involve working extra hours.  There is little risk of injury, since you are mostly working with technology, but you are doing no physical labour.  Kinesiologists can work both indoors and outdoors. › From working in the lab, to a clinic, even to working on the sidelines of a sports game.

 Doctor: I like that I would be making a difference in people’s lives. I’m also interested in how the human body works and functions.  Yoga Instructor: I’ve recently taken a yoga class. I’m extremely interested in yoga, involving exercise, and the well- being of the human body.  A fitness instructor: Involves working one on one with the client. Working with them to achieve their ultimate goal.
