How it will improve performance Goal setting works to improve performance by giving the individual or group of individuals a set target on where they want their performance to be, it is essential for the participants to have a clear view of what is expected of them allowing them to specify their efforts in a specific direction. Goal setting increases many aspects of the individuals’ behaviour and performance including motivation, awareness and overall understanding. If an individual has an idea of what they are supposed to do/ achieve efficacy and will to do so, thereby improving their performance and desire to succeed. It has been scientifically proven that 90% of individuals who set goals have higher levels of success than those who don’t. - Edwin A. Locke’s research in 1981.
