How to add suffix or verb ending to words that end in y:
If a word has a consonant before the y, change to I (mercy + less = merciless)
If a word has a vowel before y, keep the y employ + ed = employed

2. How to make nouns plural:
Words that end in ss, sh, ch, or x add es
switch = switches, wish= wishes, miss = misses
Words that have a consonant before the final y, change the y to i before adding es
summary = summaries, country = countries

3. Adding Prefixes
The spelling of a word does not change when you add a prefix to it even when the first letter of the word and the last letter of the prefix are the same
mis + step = misstep, il + logical = illogical
un + necessary = unnecessary,
pre + eminent = preeminent

4. Irregular Nouns need to be memorized
child children
foot feet
goose geese
louse lice
man men
woman women
mouse mice
ox oxen
tooth teeth
