A small Tesla coil produces a large potential difference between it and the glass of the surrounding globe, similar to a cloud and its potential difference with the ground. This potential difference uses inert gases inside the globe to complete a circuit and release its potential to the outer glass, just as a cloud releases its potential to the ground. The result? Bright, harmless, violet lightning bolts that respond to touch and sound.

A Tesla coil is an electrical circuit invented by Nikola Tesla around 1891. [1] It is used to produce high-voltage, low-current, high frequency alternating-current electricity. Nikola Tesla [1]voltagecurrentfrequency alternating-current Tesla coil circuits were used commercially in sparkgap radio transmitters for wireless telegraphy until the 1920s, and in medical equipment such as electrotherapy. Today their main use is for entertainment and educational displays, although small coils are still used today as leak detectors for high vacuum systems. sparkgap radio transmitterswireless telegraphyelectrotherapy

7
What is energy? -Energy is the ability to do work and cause change.
8
Potential Versus Kinetic Energy Potential Energy- Kinetic Energy- Is stored energy. Ex: the energy stored food, the energy in a ball at the top of stairs. The energy of motion. Ex: a ball bouncing down the stairs, you running.

James Prescott Joule 1840s – experiments to explore nature of heat & heat transfer. Discovered there was a direct relationship between the energy put into the paddle and the rise of water temperature. A unit to measure energy is named after him, the Joule.
