Prevention of Exertional Heat Illness Utilize a weight chart to determine if an athlete is consuming enough fluids and regaining weight lost in previous exercise sessions. For every pound of weight lost, the athlete should consume ___ - ____ oz. of fluid. The athlete should consume 17 to 20 oz. of fluids 2 to 3 hours before activity and an additional 7 to 10 oz. 10 to 20 minutes before the activity. The athlete should consume 7 to 10 oz. of fluids every 10 to 20 min. during the activity.

Prevention of Exertional Heat Illness Avoid water intoxication (________________) – be sure electrolytes are in fluid for long duration events.
