4 France- Economy France’s economy relies on agriculture and manufacturing However, most people work in the service industries Tourism brings many people to France each year. Paris is the #1 tourist attraction in the world

5 Economy France ranks 2 nd in the world (behind the US) in food production Grains, sugar beets, fruits, vegetables, beef dairy, wine and olives are all popular exports Natural resources include: bauxite, iron ore, coal. 80% of the county’s electricity comes from nuclear power plants

6 The People Most French trace their ancestry to the Celts, Romans, and Franks of early Europe Around 90% are Roman Catholic

7 Government France’s government is known as the Fifth Republic Presidents are elected for a 5 year term The president runs the country’s foreign affairs and appoints a prime minister to run the day-to-day business of the country

8 Paris Paris is the capital of France It has a population of more than 10 million people It is known as the City of Lights

9 Germany Roughly the size of Montana Two major waterways run through Germany: – The Danube River – The Rhine River
