2.  There are four properties involving multiplication that will help make problems easier to solve. They are the commutative, associative, multiplicative identity and distributive properties.

3.  Commutative Property  Multiplicand  Associative Property  Multiplicative Identity Property  Distributive Property

4.  When two numbers are multiplied together, the product is the same regardless of the order of the multiplicands. For example 4 x 2 = 2 x 4  Multiplicand- the number that gets multiplied. Example: in 6 x 9 = 54, 9 is the multiplicand. 9 and 6 are both factors of 54.

5.  3 x 4 = 4 x 3  4 x 6 = 6 x 4  8 x 9 = 9 x 8  3 x 7 = 7 x 3  5 x 6 = 6 x 5

6.  When three or more numbers are multiplied, the product is the same regardless of the grouping of the factors. For example (2 x 3) x 4 = 2 x (3 x 4)

7.  (4 x 6) x 8 = (8 x 4) x 6  (1 x 2) x 3 = (3 x 2) x 1  (7 x 9) x 7 = (7 x 7) x 9  (5 x 8) x 3 = (3 x 5) x 8  (4 x 8) x 9 = (8 x 9) x 4

8.  The product of any number and one is that number. For example 5 x 1 = 5

9.  7 x 1 = 7  1 x 8 = 8  9 x 1 = 9  3 x 1 = 3  1 x 6 = 6

10.  The sum of two numbers times a third number is equal to the sum of each addend times the third number. For example 4 x (6 + 3) = 4 x 6 + 4 x 3

11.  4 x (2 + 3) = 4 x 2 + 4 x 3  5 x (7 + 7) = 5 x 7 + 5 x 7  3 x (2 + 5) = 3 x 2 + 3 x 5  9 x (6 + 1) = 9 x 6 + 9 x 1  7 x (8 + 9) = 7 x 8 + 7 x 9

12.  Any number multiplied my zero is zero. For example 4 x 0 = 0

13.  5 x 0 = 0  0 x 9 = 0  6 x 0 = 0  0 x 2 = 0  8 x 0 = 0
