Learn history of how the game of Basketball originated Learn individual skills necessary in order to successfully shoot, dribble, and pass. Learn how to cooperate and work with peers in order to successfully participate in small games. NYS Learning Standard #2

Increase Fitness levels through participation in games. NYS Learning standard #1 Learn about opportunities that exist for participation outside of the PE class (Recreation, YMCA, Modified sports). NYS Learning Standard #3 Demonstrate knowledge of skills and content through a written assessment at the conclusion of the unit.

Dance Fitness Unit Learn and apply Cardio-respiratory, Muscular Strength and Endurance Concepts through participation. (NYS Learning Standard 1A and 1B) Learn about international rhythms (currently merenge, salsa, cha-cha, reggaeton, cumbia) Learn about community opportunities for participation (NYS Learning Standard #3) Collaborate with their classmates to come up with and share original dance variations. (NYS Learning Standard #2)
