Gifted Programming Requirements ▪ STEM ▪ Communication through writing and speaking ▪ Advanced Research ▪ Social Responsibility outside of the classroom ▪ Technology Requirement (multi- media presentations, digital tools) ▪ Advanced Algebraic Reasoning ▪ All of these things are taught through THEMES ▪ UNITS are a thing of the past!

8. 3 rd & 5 th Grades: Coding and Robotic Engineering Computational thinking teaches you how to tackle large problems by breaking them down into a sequence of smaller, more manageable problems. It allows you to tackle complex problems in efficient ways that operate at huge scale. It involves creating models of the real world with a suitable level of abstraction, and focus on the most pertinent aspects. It helps you go from specific solutions to general ones.

9. 4 th Grade: Reinventing Shakespeare ▪ Shakespeare has had an enduring influence on classical and popular culture through the use of language and works of art that express universally constant themes. ▪ Creativity expands our perceptions and along with expanded perceptions come new ways of problem solving.

Typical Target Day ▪ Cognitive Growth (Convergent/Divergent/Evaluative) – Problem Solving – Logic Puzzles – Brain Teasers – Pre-Algebraic/Algebraic Reasoning – Creative Thinking (FFOE) – Inquiry ▪ CCGPS Extension – Research – Connections – Debate – Discussions – Products – Technology Integration

Mr. McAllister’s ALP Schedule ▪ Mon – Crane, Laudick & Weaver ▪ Tues – Snellbacher & Wright ▪ Wed – All newly qualified 5 th ▪ Thurs – Ashmeade & Fabian ▪ Fri – Cantrell & Peacock Tues & Thurs ALP will report to Target at 7:15. ALL other ALP classes will report at 8:00. ALL Target students are released back to their homerooms at 2:00.

Mrs. Montague’s ALP Schedule ▪ Tues – Cook & Sausville ▪ Wed – Desin & Underwood ▪ Thurs – Berenger & Borg ▪ Lunch 12:00 – 12:30 ▪ Fourth Grade ALP students will be required to check in with their homeroom teachers before coming to Target as soon as they arrive at school. All dismissal notes, teacher notes and HW will be turned in at that time. ▪ They will be released back to their homerooms at 2:00

16. Prevailing Practices Gifted students are not expected to make up missed regular classroom work or homework on scheduled Target day Target homework permitted on Target day Students are responsible for missed work due to absence Appointments on Target days  Review EAGLE Update and agenda daily

22. IMPORTANT!! ▪ I am reporting your child’s progress at the standards, NOT grading your child in Target. ▪ Progressing is NOT equivalent to a “C” ▪ P’s and S’s mean that your child is being successful in Target (Annual Review)

23. ▪ Continuation Criteria – Located at the bottom of the progress report ▪ Probation - When a student does not meet continuation criteria, he/she will be placed on probation (18 weeks minimum) with strategies implemented to help them become successful. Probation/Removal/Re-entry
