1.Charlie wanted to buy chicks at the market. He had $80 in his pocket and he spend all of his money to buy chicks at $4 each. On his way home, he give away 10 of the chicks that he bought to his friend. When he arrived at home, his dad gave him 5 boxes, and when he open them, each box contains 5 chicks. How many chicks did Charlie have now? Answer: 80 : 4 – 10 + 5 x 5 20 – 10 + 5 x 5 10 + 5 x 5 10 + 25 = 35

2.Andy’s mom baked 20 cupcakes today. After she finished baking, Andy ate 5 of the cupcakes. Then his mom took several trays from her kitchen, and then she put 3 cupcakes on each tray. She still have 5 stacks of trays in her kitchen cabinets, and each stacks consists of 6 trays. How many cupcakes does Andy’s mom have? Answer: (20 – 5) : 3 + 5 x 6 15 : 3 + 5 x 6 5 + 5 x 6 5 + 30 = 35

3.On the way to the garden, Sally bought 5 bags of oranges. Each bag contains 4 oranges. Then she split equally with her friend, Cathy. When she got to the garden, she found out that 5 oranges were bad. But she also found 30 good oranges on the orange tree. How many oranges does she have? Answer: 5 x 4 : 2 – 5 + 30 20 : 2 – 5 + 30 10 – 5 + 30 5 + 30 = 35
