2 Objectives Today, we will learn how to properly wash our hands using the six step process recommended by ServSafe.

Why Do We Wash Our Hands? 1. To keep germs away. 2. To prevent us from getting sick. 3. To prevent spreading germs to our food.

4 The Six Steps of Hand Washing

5 Step 1 Turn on water to a comfortable level. Not too hot, not too cold. Wet your hands and wrists.

6 Step 2 Put soap on your hands and wrists.

7 Step 3 Scrub your hands and wrists with the soap for 15-20 seconds.
(Sing Happy Birthday song two times)

8 Step 4 Rinse your hands under running water.
Make sure you remove all the soap from your hands.

9 Step 5 Use a paper towel to dry off your hands.

10 Step 6 Use your paper towel to turn off the water.

15 Always wash hands: After using the bathroom. After handling money.
Handling raw meat. After coughing, sneezing, eating, or drinking. After handling garbage. After handling dirty equipment. After clearing a dirty table. During food prep. Before putting on gloves. Touching anything that may contaminate your hands. After touching clothes or aprons.

Warm running water Soap Paper towels or air dryer Garbage Hand washing sinks should be used Only for hand washing Never dump dirty water or prepare food in the sink Never stack food, equipment, or supplies in the sink.
