Outline of today’s msg: 1. Jesus’ disciples get indignant with James and John, leading to yet a lecture from Jesus on servanthood 2. A blind beggar call out to Him to have mercy upon him. 3. Jesus makes His triumphal entry into Jerusalem as King. 4. We will discuss what it means to have Jesus as your king.
3
Mark 10:41-45: Jesus lectures His disciples on true greatness coming from being a servant
4
Jesus refers to His life as being lived in order that He might be a ‘ransom’
5
Mark 10:46-52: A blind beggar named Bartimaeus calls out to Jesus asking Him to have mercy upon him
6
How to look at the discrepancies between the various gospel accounts of this healing
7
People were not compassionate to this blind beggar: ‘Many were sternly telling him to be quiet’
8
There is much to admire about Bartimaeus 1. He recognized Jesus would fulfill the Davidic Covenant. 2. He called Jesus, “Rabboni”. 3. He has genuine faith and thus perseveres in calling out to Jesus. 4. He cried out for Christ’s mercy. 5. He “began following Him on the road”.
9
Mark 11:1-10: Jesus orchestrates His triumphal entry into Jerusalem
10
Jesus as king
11
If Jesus is your king, then…
12
What was Jesus accomplishing on this day?
13
What will Jesus do as king when He returns?
14
Conclusions: 1. Is He your king??? 2. Are you persevering in your faith like blind beggar Bartemaeus? 3. Are you in the place where God truly can pour out His blessings on your life and lead you in His will for you?
