10 10 Second Language Endorsement School Districts must offer instruction to the Second Language Standards Districts must offer students the option of earning an endorsement in Second Language

11 11 Second Language Endorsement We suggest that districts continue to use the instructional program and local assessments that are currently in place Second Language standards revision scheduled for 04-05 school year

12 12 Proposed standards presented to the State Board by May of ’06 School districts will have 2 years to align curriculum with the new standards List of available assessments on Second Language webpage Second Language Endorsement

13 13 Assessments are scheduled to be reviewed and correlated to the ACTFL scale, resulting in a revised list of suggested Second Language Assessments Second Language Endorsement

14 14 CIM performance level will be determined by the Second Language Content Panel with input from public meetings held throughout Oregon Second Language Endorsement

15 15 Work Sample requirements will also be determined during this process Scoring guides will be developed to assist in the review of work samples Second Language Endorsement

20 20 Social Science Grade- Level Mapping What is it? What teachers believe is necessary to move children to benchmark standards. It is not required curriculum. It is one model of year-to-year organization of instruction to move students to meeting the standards.

28 28 Health Education Standards Timeline Standards, CCG’s and Benchmarks are currently being developed Standards brought to the State Board of Education in September School districts will have two years to align their curriculum with the Oregon health education standards.

29 29 Health Education Standards Timeline Free training and support from ODE and the Oregon Training Cadre to help teachers and districts align their curriculum will be ongoing, beginning at the FREE Safe and Health Summer Institute in Newport, August 9-12. Trainings will continue throughout the school year.

30 30 Health Education CIM Endorsement Scoring guides for Health are currently being developed. During April 1, 2005 through March 30, 2006, the scoring guides will be field tested. Districts shall make CIM endorsement available based on state performance requirement May 1, 2007.

44 44 LEXILES are around the corner!! 1a) Why will Oregon students receive Lexile scores?  As part of Oregon's Literacy Initiative  Funded through Oregon's Reading First Grant

45 45 1) When will students receive Lexile scores? When they receive their state test scores. The Lexile Framework is now linked to the Oregon's Reading/Literature Assessment.

46 46 2) What are Lexiles?  Lexiles are derived from The Lexile Framework.  The Lexile Framework matches the reading level of students with the difficulty level of the materials read.

47 47 3) How will LEXILES help students? Parents and educators may direct students to reading materials at a level where students are challenged but not discouraged. The Lexile Framework enables students, parents, and teachers to take an active role in improving students' reading skills.

48 48 4) What is that "sweet" level? An instructional level at which students can understand approximately 75% of the materials they read on their own. 5) Who created the Lexiles?  A team of experts in the fields of measurement, testing, and reading  MetaMetrics markets this tool.
