4 Wider reaching research… The Organisation of Economic Development: boys (15 year olds)who fall short fall very short in all areas. Girls read more (which is the basis for almost all learning). Resultant peer pressure from other males to ‘not succeed’ (not just peers, but family members also) reduces aspirations. The Journal of Intelligence: This trend is true of 70% of countries regardless of race, economic, social or political factors and also in countries where there is a lack of gender equality.

5 Why is this? Lack of male role models? Different gender expectations? Does teaching suit girls learning more than boys? Social stereotyping?

6 The ‘Boys will be boys’ programme… -Rebranding the phrase ‘boys will be boys’ -Remembering the Rochester Siege of 1215? Halloween fun? -Visit to the cinema? -Sports events? -Camping? Survival? -A cooking project? -A build/design project? All of these will take place on Saturday’s, allowing working fathers to participate.

12 Boys will be boys…will be brilliant Once your T-shirts are designed, we will print them and sell them on the school website. The more you sell, the more we make! You job is to create an advertisement to sell your T- shirt. It could be a radio jingle, TV ad, poster, animation…its up to you! For the older children, you could accompany your advertisement with a business plan. How many do you think you will sell? What are the outgoing costs? How much profit will you make?
