International Agrifood Economics Part II: International Organizations Course Information II Part: Introduces the International Agricultural Organization System and their respecting policies. Division: 4 main sections corresponding to the major international organizations whose mandate involves agriculture, food security and rural development issues. FAO: World’s agricultural Technical expertise IFAD: Intern. Financial Institution dedicated to eradicating poverty & hunger WFP: Food Aid Agency Relevant aspects of each Rome-Based agency of the UN will be explained : * Mandate * State Members * A brief history of its beginning* Main Activities * Goals* Main Programmes & Policies * Objectives* Funds * Structure, * Partners

Part II: International Organizations It will be clarified the specific and complementary roles concerning the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the first global community’s goal of eliminating hunger and poverty. WTO: The organization who deals with trade around the world. * GATT.* Structure * Main purpose* Member States * Principles* Main activities * Agreements. A special focus will be given to the Agricultural Agreements and the three main rules and commitments that are still in negotiation: Domestic support Tariffs Export Subsidies.

At the end of the second part of the course, students are expected to : (i) Possess a clear idea of the International Agricultural Organization System focused on agricultural development and food security and their policies (ii) Make the difference among the different but complementary roles of the International Organizations (iii) Be aware of the rules and commitments who govern on agricultural trade and food security at a global level.
