8. Oedipus Background story: Oedipus went to find out his true parentage. While finding this out he found out that he would kill his father and then marry his mother. He decided to never go back to his home lands and began his travel toward Thebes.

9. The Burial at Thebes is Seamus Heaney’s interpretation of Sophocles’ Antigone First written at about 442 BC Greek mythology

10. Setting The play takes place in Thebes, Greece during the year 442 BC

12. Themes Justice: The characters throughout the play are searching for justice. Their actions are done based of justice for the gods and for the dead. Honor: Each character in the play is fighting for honor. Some characters are fighting to honor their family members, others are fighting to honor their city.
