2 The DHCD Continuing Education Policy took effect on May 1, 2008. As we approach the year anniversary of this new policy, the Training and Certification Unit wanted to provide you with the answers to a few commonly asked questions we receive on a regular basis. 3 How CE many hours do I need? Last Name Begins With: Hours due: Due by date: Hours Due:Next Due date: A-M16 hrsMay 1 st, 2010 16 hrsMay 1 st, 2012 N-Z8 hrsMay 1 st, 2009 16 hrsMay 1 st, 2011 The only “exception” to the 16 hour requirement. 8 hours is required for names ending in N-Z because only a year has passed since the policy was initiated.

4 What Courses Can I take? The key to acquiring CE hours is that the course may be applied in your current work environment. Take classes that make sense; basket weaving or Art 101 would not be considered acceptable courses! If you are unsure whether or not a course can be used for CE credit, give us a call at 804-371- 7180, we’ll be happy to advise. 5 Do staff meetings or department organized training count towards CE’s? Yes! If your office holds a meeting or in house training, record these hours and distribute a certificate, sign in sheet or some other form of documentation which lists: Yes!
