The team decided that we should consider charities that have a presence in the Worcestershire area The following six charities were identified at 3 rd Nov meeting. Each team member was assigned an action to investigate and report back on why “their” charity should be selected ◦ Dodford Childrens Holiday Farm – Kristian Askew ◦ Acorns Childrens Hospice – Tom Wheatcroft ◦ Mental Health Action Group- Clair Allen ◦ Pathways Recovery- Romy Donnelly ◦ Noah’s Ark Trust- Adam Halasz ◦ Sight Concern- Jo Bull 3 Tom Wheatcroft

4 Clair Allen Charity Information Acorns is the only organisation that provides this level of care to these vulnerable youngsters whilst offering a range of support services to the whole family to help them cope at every stage of their child's life and beyond into bereavement.
5
5 Clair Allen Why Acorns? Established Charity We felt that choosing an established charity would encourage people to support more readily as they will be familiar with the charity and what it aims to achieve Local Choosing a charity close to the college will allow donators to see the direct benefit of their donations within their area. It is likely that acorns have supported someone the donator will know and love. An estimated 2,000 plus children in the catchment area meet acorns criteria (including the 640 we are currently being supported)
6
6 Clair Allen Non National Charity We wanted to raise funds for a charity that we felt needed our help the most. Many of the larger charities such as Cancer Research, British Heart Foundation etc. whilst equally deserved, already have access to funds from many sources. Smaller charities rely on local support and fundraising activities to offer the care provided Wide Support Acorns support children, young people and their families meaning that it is considering the care for the whole family. We liked the idea that the families of those less fortunate also need support

8 Kristian Askew Team Roles Based on Belbin Roles and the completion of the questionnaire, the following appointments were made: Coordinator – Clair Allen Implementor – All Completer/Finisher – Romy Donnelly Monitor/Evaluator – Kristian Askew Plant – Tom Wheatcroft Resource/Investorigator – Jo Bull** (absent during lecture due to illness so the team took a best guess for Jo) Team Worker – Adam Halasz In addition to the above roles, the team decided Kristian Askew would be responsible for all cash generated from fund raising events
9
9 Adam Halasz Be prepared for every meeting Be productive at all times Respect your team mates and their ideas (mobile phones, talking etc) Be committed Let everyone know if you are unable to attend a meeting or an event Be positive and polite with everyone involved in the challenge If you have missed a meeting catch up on what you have missed Commit to owning each task and be sure to let others team members know if you are not going to meet your task for the week Each member to take turns taking minutes of the meetings, minutes must be shared by email by 11am on the Tuesday after college
10
10 Clair Allen Complete agreed fundraising activities in order to achieve a minimum of £1.5k for Acorn’s Hospice by no later than Monday 11 th May 2015 Record the amount raised on a fundraising log for each event within 2 weeks of completion in order to keep a track of overall performance against £1.5k target Demonstrate the relevant approval has been given by the charity to undertake each fundraising activity proposed and any relevant paperwork has been completed and submitted prior to any event Complete a portfolio of evidence to demonstrate pro’s and con’s, projected costs and relevant research has been considered prior to each event Each team member must keep an on-going ‘learning journal’ which records how they have developed outcomes to solutions, submitted ideas and taken on tasks associated with each event Each team member must take turns to record minutes from team meetings which clearly outline tasks for each member for the week ahead and circulate these to each team by 11am the following Wednesday morning via e-mail

11 Kristian Askew Bag Packing Attend local supermarkets to assist customers with packing their shopping Pros High volume of people coming through the checkouts at weekends and the lead up to Christmas No costs Acorns is a local charity which should help convince the store management to allow the event to take place Cons Not everyone will want help Some people might feel pressured into accepting the help Additional commitment from team members to attend the event Revenue Target £200 per event x 3 events = £600 Costs No costs associated with this event
12
12 Kristian Askew Non School Uniform Days Local schools hold non school uniform days where each child is asked to contribute a nominal fee towards Acorns Children's Hospice Pros Little commitment from the team The schools would collect all the money and handle all the communication with the parents Potential to gain high revenue Cons Schools may already have a chosen charity of their own Links into schools can be difficult to establish Can only ask for a contribution and not all children will pay the nominal fee Revenue Target 4 schools with 300 children each = 1200 children. Each child is asked to contribute £1 = £1200 Costs None, school handle all the communication and collect the fees
13
13 Kristian Askew Acorns Merchandise Acorns Children's Hospice provide their own merchandise, i.e. badges, bands etc, and the team sell them: at work, to friends and family Pros No costs associated Limited time commitment from team members No time needed to design, make and promote the products Cons Approval from employers to allow the merchandise to be sold Communicating the products and purpose to employees Revenue Target 200 items of merchandise sold at £1 each = £200 Costs None
14
14 Kristian Askew Quiz Nights Schedule quiz nights at local pubs Pros Good social event Some pubs already run regular quiz nights so quiz master etc already established Add a 50/50 raffle into the evening to have two sources of income in one event 50/50 raffle – total amount raised by the raffle is divided equally between the charity and a meal voucher for the pub holding the event Cons Convincing the pubs to allow us to take over a quiz evening If quiz night is new to the pub then communication the event could be challenging Hangover the following morning (only joking on this one, will remove it from the final version ) Time commitments from the team to promote and attend the event Revenue Target 100 people per night (20 teams of 5) and charge £1 per person = £100 50/50 raffle – charged £1 per ticket x 100 people = £100 Total per event £200 and plan to hold 4 events so £800 Costs None
