Prediction present future simple will / won’t
shall / shan’t (for I and we) To predict an event which we think will happen because similar events have happened in the past I’ll probably visit my grandmother for Christmas It will rain tomorrow

Prediction be going to + infinitive
If there is (current) evidence in the present to justify the prediction. Near future. John Smith is going to be the next President Look at those clouds. I’m sure it’s going to rain

Prediction present future continuous will/won’t be + ing participle
For a temporary action in progress at a particular moment in the future This time tomorrow I’ll be travelling to Amsterdam

Prediction will/won’t be + ing participle or will/won’t + infinitive
To make a ‘prediction’ about something we believe to be the case now. Who’s that at the door? That’ll be Jim – I am expecting him That will be him ringing the doorbell I wonder where they are now. Oh – they’ll be sitting in the train

Prediction present future perfect simple
will/won’t have + past participle To make predictions about actions which we expect to be completed by a particular time in the future It’s o’clock. He will have arrived by 11

Prediction present future perfect continuous
will/won’t have + been + ing participle To talk about an action which is still ongoing at a point in the future, to focus on the duration of the action. By the end of this year I will have been working here for six years

Decisions and Intentions
present future simple will/won’t/shall/shan’t + infinitive to talk about a decision made at the time of speaking I will send you the information when I get it Will you make dinner this evening? Shall we go for a swim later?

be going to + infinitive for intentions I’m going to meet my friends for dinner after this lesson I’m going to clean the house on Saturday afternoon

Arrangement present continuous
to describe an event in the future which has already been arranged by the time of speaking I’m going on holiday next week I’m flying with Cathay Pacific for future arrangements that involve other people; commitment I’m playing tennis tennis tomorrow I’m doing exams next week for impersonal plans The Party is holding its annual meeting in Birmingham next week

Arrangement present future continuous
will/won’t/shall/shan’t + be + ing participle for events that are a result of or part of an arrangement made in the past By this time next week I will be lying on the beach

present simple This course finishes at the end of block three The plane leaves at a.m. on Thursday Routine events in the future will/won’t/shall/shan’t be + ing participle I’ll be having my annual check up next month

Will/won’t/shall/shan’t
Time clauses Will/won’t/shall/shan’t but a present form When I finish my report, I will ask you to have a look at it Before I go to London, I will book a room at a hostel I will buy an iPad, after I save enough money
