Other Areas for Security Measures Parking lots and garages. Courtrooms across the country. Instances involving VIPs, corporate executives and political candidates. Businesses located abroad.

Parking Lot and Garage Security Problems: Assault. Robbery. Theft. Kidnapping. Vandalism. Solutions: Adequate lighting. Surveillance via closed circuit TV (CCTV) cameras or patrol. Communications such as intercoms, phones or call buttons. Patron awareness programs.

Courtroom Security Problems Threats, including bomb threats. Assaults. Unruly spectators. Escape attempts. Demonstrations outside the courtroom.

Solutions for Courtroom Security Effective access control, including screening of people and packages using metal detectors and x-ray machines. Surveillance equipment. Security glass in vulnerable areas. Locks on doors. Duress alarms. A plan on how to react in emergencies such as a duress alarm, an escape or a bomb threat.

Protecting VIPs, Corporate Executives and Political Candidates Problems: The principal’s mobility and lack of concern. The potential for threats, assaults, blackmail, harassment or kidnapping. Solutions: Heightening principal’s awareness of risk. Watching for preincident indicators. Checking out choke points. Using advance work prior to any travel. Avoiding routines.

Protecting Individuals and Business Interests Abroad Primary problem: Unfamiliarity with the language, local customs and expectations. Solutions: Follow same procedures used in a hostile surrounding in the US. Use procedures for personal protection. The more that is known of the language, culture and political atmosphere, the greater the likelihood that the security plan will be effective.
