While viewing this video, answer the following: 1. List two adaptations you saw the fish use to allow it to survive in different conditions? 2. What do you think caused them to occur?
3
In 1859 Charles Darwin stated that an environment has a strong influence over the survival of offspring. ( violent neighborhoods or habitat thicker fur on bears) This is due to certain traits that allow some individuals to have a grater chance at survival and reproduction that others.
4
It is a genetic change in characteristics of a population from one generation to the next There are certain aspects of Evolution.. What are they? Coevolution, Evolution by Artificial & Natural Selection, Evolution of Resistance, Adaptation
5
Natural Selection-over many generations, natural selection causes an organism’s characteristics of a population to change. This enables that organism to survive and reproduce more successfully.. Leading to evolution Example: chameleon catching a fly with its tongue.
6
Adaptation- an inherited trait that increases the organisms chance to survive and reproduce in a certain environment Example: deer developing thicker fur to survive the cold habitat
7
Two species evolve with one another in response to a long term interaction with each other Example: Birds and honey flowers
8
When individuals select a specific trait of an organism Example: Vegetation.. Can select a certain trait to allow the vegetables to grow bigger and have a better produce appearance
9
Ability of one main organism to tolerate a particular chemical designed to kill it. How is this possible? Those (pests) who are sprayed with a pesticide that do not die, reproduce offspring that will have the resistant strand to the chemical. Examples: Pesticides are used by the agricultural community, roaches and Raid, humans and immunization shots
10
So why should I care about this stuff? How does it affect me? Why Does Evolution Matter Now?
11
Research and explain one way Evolution is important to the human species….
