5 Alexander the Great Alexander established an empire from Greece to Egypt and up to the edge of India He fought for 11 years and covered 11,000 miles The creation of this empire enabled the spread of the Hellenistic Culture

6 The Spread of Hellenistic culture
Alexander the Great adopted Greek, Persian and Egyptian cultures and spread them throughout his empire He built “Greek” cities as he went A common Greek language was used Trade He encouraged his troops to take Persian wives, and he did as well We find art in India that resembles art in Greece Deities from the Greek mythological pantheon also tend to be incorporated in Buddhist representations, displaying a strong blend between Indian and Greco-Roman culture

7 How did Hellenistic culture develop?
Talk to your Neighbor How did Hellenistic culture develop? As Alexander conquered different peoples, he left Greeks in charge so the Greek language spread. Along with the language, culture also spread. This was combined with the culture of the people being conquered (Indian, Persian, Egyptian). Trade increased and also contributed to the spread of the culture.
