1 Story Line Approach Storyline is when you use narratives in a learning situation. A story must have a plot and some problems needs to be solved. As students suggest answers, provide solutions to problems, and create characters and scenarios, their involvement and commitment is increased.

2 Justification The Teachers guide for English Grade 9 emphasizes the following: The Guide supports the learner-centred approach of the Grade 9 textbook, by suggesting games and activities which will make language learning fun. Dramatization and role play are encouraged in both the textbook and the Guide. Group and pair work should be done as much as possible. It is not necessary to follow every activity in the textbook or in the Guide: teachers should use their discretion as to what is most appropriate for their students and classroom and add other activities of their own.

3 Good Principles of CBSS activities The learning is related to students future education and employment needs, opportunities and/or interests Students know how the learning objectives are linked to their learning needs, i.e. why it is important and how it is applicable The learning is linked to real-life situations and examples The student's motivation and commitment is supported by the learning set-up, e.g. by including students knowledge and experience, learner involvement and applying participatory approaches Learning environment is non-threatening, motivating and fun
